With 9 deaths between Friday and Monday morning, the road toll for last weekend brought our year-to-date to 292, which is up 41 on the same time last year.
Police are begging drivers to change their habits.
"Every death is reported as a number, but each number has a face, a name and a family. They leave behind loved ones whose lives have been changed forever," said Assistant Commissioner road policing Sandra Venables. Police can only do so much, but at the end of the day it's up to each driver to make good decisions when they hop behind the wheel.
Speeding, and not wearing a seatbelt. These are two highly preventable actions an individual can choose to take, which endanger lives.
