By now, you’re counting down the hours to your well-deserved get-away over Easter. Before you jump in the car, just remember to take extra care when travelling this long weekend.
There’s going to be a lot more people on the road. They’ll be driving long distances, on unfamiliar roads, and distracted by the kids asking “are we there yet?” And you’re going to be one of them!
Here’s a few tips from us to help you have safe and happy travels:
- Make sure your car is ready for a long trip. Check things like your lights, the air in your tyres, your wipers, fill the windscreen bottle, and ensure loose items are secure.
- Drive to the conditions. The forecast is for a bit of rain, but also consider our winding or unsealed back-country New Zealand roads. And slow down if you’re towing the boat or caravan.
- Plan in advance when you’re going to take breaks, or switch drivers to keep you refreshed.
- Stay relaxed, be aware of your hazards and remember you’re sharing the road.
